Japanese Tempe

The other day a friend was asking where she could find Natto in KK. At first I thought it was a drink, just because she said it’s a fermented Soya Bean. I got more puzzled when she said that it’s a food and showed me a link on YouTube on how to eat it. I certainly think it looked like Tempe, only that it’s not “fused” together and it has slime due to the fermenting process. Because I’m a curious cat, I went out and bought it.

Natto pack

This is how they sell it, a pack of three, there’s a bigger packet but I bought a smaller one because I don’t want to waste it if in the event that I don’t really like it. You can get this at Tong Hing near HSBC bank.

The un-opened pack.

Inside natto pack

Each pack contain natto, mustard and sweet soy sauce. Referring back to my Bahasa Melayu day, mustard is biji sawi.

Add mustard and sweet soya sauce

OK, you need to mixed it all together before consuming it.

mixed it up

After mixing it all up, you can start to see the slime.

mixed up close-up

A closer look at it.

eat it

And you eat it with rice. OK I still prefer tempe over this. I don’t really mind the slime, and it doesn’t taste that bad at all, in fact its tasteless, to me anyway. But I don’t mind having it again. Anything else you want to introduce to me Nat?

The Geek

A so called geek who resides at North Borneo, in a not so little city anymore, formerly known as Api-Api to the locals, Jesselton to the colonialist. This geek is a Civil Engineer by profession, who have lots of ideas popping up while traveling, who will write whatever popped up in his mind and hopping the reader would not be so judgmental toward his writings. This geek is also a computer & internet junkie who love outdoor, which is pretty much contradicting to each other doesn’t it? This geek is good at almost everything but a master of none (read about this somewhere). People may perceive him as a very quiet, describe as phlegmatic person, yet he is quite a chatterbox to those whom he is really close or comfortable with. This geek thinks anime chicks are way cooler than a real chick hence why he also likes to watch it (not the chicks, but the anime). Not to be mistaken as watching a cartoon, anime to this geek and to most of anime follower are animation that are created and produce by the Japanese.
